Singapore a really clean country?

Is Singapore a really clean country? I don't think so...yes, we have lotsa dustin and trash containers...but you see rubbish, litter everywhere....the fines are not effective.
Personally, i find SIngaporeans to be a selfish lot, one which does not see far..."if it doesn't concern me at the moment, i don't care..." this is what alot of the people's mentality are...

You see litters everywhere, even if the dustbin is full, people still insist on "throwing" the litter in THAT dustbin..."there'll be someone to take care of that, i just need to get rid of this litter"
After an event, like national day or some outdoor activities, soccer matches, concerts, cinemas, etc. everyone just leaves the rubbish there....

the people just could not be educated about how we are killing the environment and how the ozone layer is being depleted..."By the time the earth dies, i'd be dead anyway"
Yes, we may have a good government to "keep" the country clean, by fines, laws, hiring lotsa cleaners etc...
but it is each and everyone's concern for the environment, upbringing, mentality, values to stop oneself from littering...
Up to now, this is still not seen in most Singaporeans...sad to say..

We still need the cleaners to keep this city a clean and flowery city...one may say "if the place was so clean, the cleaners would be out of job, we're giving them a living"

Heck, rubbish talk as excuses for their own irresponsibility and immaturity.

The KOP comes to Singapore!!!!

Finally, 26th July 2009 has arrived!! (and over...)
Liverpool comes to Singapore to take on the Singapore national team!!
i was there with my wife and kid...Enjoying the atmosphere of being at the KOP in the East!
Lotsa singing and cheering...the atmosphere is really good.
Here are some pics which i took:
The emcees who are "liverpool" fans for the night...trying to kick start something to get the crowd going...we didn't need them....quite redundant, the 2 of them....
The red sea...

My kid...probably the youngest liverpool fan present there....
Carragher at the warm ups
Voronin
Babel
Bernayoun
The giant liverpool flag

Kiddo and me!! Arrival fo Pepe Reina

Xabi Alonso
Dirk Kuyt
Carragher
Xabi acknowledges his fans cheering for him...
Torres making his way to the sidelines
Jamie Yeo again trying to attract attention for all the wrong reasons...
Second half warm ups
Torres waiting to pounce on Singapore team...
The results says it all...
Rafeal acknowledges fans singing for him

This will be the sight in England (BPL) after 38 games starting August 2009...

Reds acknowledging their fans

Come to think of it, it is quite sad for the national team....being thrashed in their home ground and yet every single person there is cheering...none would want the home team to win...this is how selfish we are, we paid to watch liverpool...so liverpool must perform, i don't give a damn about the National team....so sad...i've never supported the Singapore tea, anyway, and i don't think they'll ever go into the World cup, ever...at least not in my this lifetime.....LOL

Another SAF regular gone....

A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman was killed during a parachute freefall training session in Bloemfontein, South Africa, on Wednesday. He was part of a formation jump...when the formation broke off at 3500 feet to deploy their parachutes, 1WO Tan, 53, spiralled downwards to the ground.

All SAF freefall training has been suspended.

Are we to lax with the training safety? Or is this another isolated incident? whatever it is, there seems to be more and more deaths in the Army...and there isn't a war which makes it worse....deaths from wars and fights, understandable...but from training?

It really worries me coz my son would be joining the army eventually (though iz way too early now, he's only 1 yr old...lol). By then, how would the army training evolve?

People are dropping like flies from runs, "tortured" to death (water dunking incident), and now from free fall...this guy's supposed to be a veteran!!!

I suppose the saying goes...."If it's your time, its yours...there no escaping it...."

My condolences to the family....wounds take time to heal....but time is never enough...

Request help from Government?

Recently, read in the papers and saw from teh news that people are actually asking the government to help them to get their investment back particularly those who had invested in lehman brothers and affiliated companies....
I don't think anything can be done and i believe the government should not chip in to help.

As much as i sympathise with the people who had lost their life savings, espcially the old folks....but this is the consequence which an investor has to bear when the choices they make are not working out.

You deposit in a bank to generate interest, invest in unit trusts, fixed deposits, shares etc. Eventually, we all want to make more money, as much as possible....but when the company go busts, all the share price drops to beyond redemption, we all have to bear everything... when we sign up for an investment, we have to understand the risks involved and the benefits...after balacing the pros and cons, we put down our name....yes, the bank or the investment might be hard-selling but eventually before we sign in blood, we have to fully, thoroughly everything about an investment.

The banks will always say low risks, high risks....but remember LOW RISK is not NO RISK!!!!
After all are gone, and asking the government to help, it very much like asking Singapore Pools to return the money we betted on 4D and Toto when the numbers do not strike..DUH!!!

But like i said again....Sympathy there is but i don't think there is a way to get back what they've lost...no matter how loud they speak at the speaker's corner or how much tears they shed on tv...that's just the cruel reality....
